Web cams

In this day and age we have the eye in the sky always watching us, but on the other hand would it be nice to have web cams on all the major fishing holes that are fished in Arkansa, i wonder if the dnr would ever consider installing web cams, for one it could show conditions of the water before ever leaving your home and wasting time going to the ramp and then leaving due to conditions. I use a sight thats called Home Lake Michigan and it has helpful links which i click on web cams and it shows lake conditions live in real time, due to the fact sometimes coast guard reports are off about the wave conditions and thus makes up my mind if i go or not and sometimes there wrong. Just my :twocents

Nope. Just something else for lurkers. I fish every chance I get in good or bad conditions.

I like to fish in some adverse conditions. Fewer people on the lake! :biggrin

Like so many other things, if you put something like that up and somebody finds out where it is, it will be stolen, the copper wire ripped out, etc. It's a shame you can't have that kind of updated technology but the thugs of the world must have their crack!

Reelfoot.com once had an "Eagle Cam" that was situated in an eagles nest. You might check that out. Not sure how much of the lake you can see from it though.

We have a web cam on Lake Conway, so that we can remotely monitor the water level. We were told by our IT folks that this link could not be made public because of network security issues. They are afraid that someone would be able to access the AGFC's secure network. I wish that we could make it public. It would be very handy if the general public could see the lakes water level by viewing a web cam. I know that it sure helps up out.

Seems like it could be set up on its own secure server off network. Coupled with a wave height monitor, or just level,temp, and wave monitor set on the larger Arkansas lakes would be useful. Selling targeted advertising on the web site could support it. The COE could also do this on their managed lakes.

I'm not sure. I'm not a tech guy. I was just told that making it public would potentially compromise the security if the network. That's all I know. We had to get them to set the camera up for us and they weren't really happy about doing that.

No government agency is happy when they spend money on good things for the public, they just like pork barrel spending.:Rofl

It wasn't money that IT was not happy about. We paid for the equipment out of the district budget. They had concerns over the network security. I guess state government agencies takes network security pretty seriously. :)

They must have a IT guy that is very sharp that can setup the web cams and make sure that they don't get hacked, in this day and age there is so much technology to block the hackers, maybe a private company could set them up and let them worry about the network and security. I also understand what arkcrappie saying about the scrapers then they would find the wire in some scrapyard.
