I used these bits a couple of times so far so good. I believe my drill is too heavy (18v dWalt). My prob is leveling the drill, even with a standard bit. Hard to use a drill guide on the boat. Any suggestions? Age may be the X factor.:dono

I normally use a drill then tap. I have a couple of drill taps similar to those but don't like them. Usually screw up the taping part when I have used them.
Drill/ tap combinations work pretty good in softer materials. Those are hex shanked in harder materials they have no way of slipping if they bind up and you could be left with a tap broken off in the hole. That will turn a job south in a hurry.
The drill tap combos work well if used with a tapping head. I cannot imagine trying them by hand, If you read the description they say for 10 gage material or less which is ~1/8 thick
They do work great in a tapping head. Good in a mill for production work
I made it thru my transducer project. I ain't a good machinist. Just a blacksmith I guess.:dono:yikes
I have good luck with them I use them regularly I don't use my drill I use the dewalt cordless impact and tap oil
