Last year I picked up a Fish Buddy by Hummingbird (portable fish finder) with a bass raider boat I bought. Has anyone ever tried to us one of these on the ice?. The reviews say they will work through the ice. I was wondering of the cold would effect the screen? Waiting for ice in Monroe.
Dont know about that unit, but I used to use a lowrance 520 with never a problem. Probably be fine. You dont have to drill to install the transducer, just pour a little water on top of the ice and it will shoot thru the ice

Also take a gps along with you. If you trip over a good spot it can be a nightmare to find that same spot again.
If your needing a battery, look at cabelas rechargable. This little battery runs the 520 along with the gps antanna all day with power to spare.

I seen a video on youtube of a guy ice fishing with one seemed to treat him good being he was catching fish.
