Being mostly a crappie fisherman before we set our camper up in White Oak Shore campground, I thought the same thing then once we got to fishing for trout and drum in that area, I'm thinking What's a crappie!! So when wer down there I leave the long pole home and target them. But with that being said they tell me there are some nice slab crappie above the stella bridge on the white oak river.
There's some pretty decent crappie fishing in New River, just not sure about in June. If you put in at the USO Landing go up river until you see the house built into the side of a hill. When you see that try fishing several hundred yards in either direction. Watch out there's a few under water hazards to navigate, and by that time every bush will have a snake in it, and there's some HUGE gators in there as well.
If you want to drive about 15 minutes north, the Rock Quarry in Maysville is open again. It used to be $5 to fish, not sure now. Good luck and be careful.
^ what he said. Jack knows his stuff around the J'ville / New Bern area. However, if it were me I'd bring my trout rods, too. In case the crappie don't work out. By June the flounder will be biting, they may still be a little small. But in early June, before the dog days, an inshore slam is not out of the question. Good luck either way!
Does anyone know a phone number fees etc for the rock quarry in Maysville
Thanks Jack i appreciate it since I moved to the coast I'm really loving the salt but this time of year when things slow down I got crappie on the brain
