Ivan Lake 11/22/14

Went to Ivan for the first time today. Nice area and pretty decent lake. Looked like the fishing was good for everyone but me. Had one up to the boat then it spit the hook into my knuckle. Not sure what everyone else was using or how deep (don't have electronics on the boat yet) but all the boats were congregated within 100 yds of each other it looked like. The one that I did have on did not hit hard at all. After all the tree branches that I had snagged jigging it felt like another tree until the line started going in circles. Not sure if that means anything but maybe the more seasoned crappie anglers might know.

Nice day out at least...will definitely be trying that lake again sometime. Hope everyone else had better luck whether they were on the water or in the woods.

Don't know where that lake is but thanks for the report....I lost a few at the boat today myself.....it is frustrating when you don't get that many bites then when you do it gets off....

I was on Ivan Lake today from first light to 10:30. I caught 20 and was having a bad day compared to most everyone else. They were biting on many different jigs today based on my observations and comments from others. Gray Ghosts, red/chartreuse, Bobby Garland Popsicle, red/white, all were working. The bite is very subtle, and today was generally happening as the jig fell or was held steady at about 10 feet. Hope this helps.

Going in circles sounds like a nice bluegill. Glad you got to fish and hope you do better next time.

What boat were you in? I got there about 830ish and left at 1200. I was in the OD grizzly tracker and have a silver Ram 1500. Thanks for the tips...I'll remember that next time I am out there.

I was in a red Tracker 175 TXW and maroon Ford F150.

We all need big neon Crappie.com stickers for our boats and vehicles so we can meet and greet each other. Do you hear me slab;? We need bright yellow or hunter orange Crappie.com stickers.

Not sure what causes them to bite so soft sometimes, and slam it other times. Last year on D'Bone, I caught plenty at the gathering but the bite was so soft, that ever tiny bump, I'd lift the rod, and half the time I'd set the hook. This year, the small ones hit like a gou, only to pull up a 4 inch fish. :) I'm sure there's a science behind it, but its beyond me right now.

Glad you had a nice day on the water! I spent mine fixing a hot water heater! lol

RmGeorge, did any have any size to them? I was hoping that they would wait another year before they let people fish on Ivan again so the fish could mature some more.

They are averaging about ten inches. I believe that they have to be fished or they would overpopulate the lake and stunt the whole population. The wildlife biologists are very pleased with the health of the lake.
