Inherited an Old Navy Flag
Was going through some things that we inherited from Randy's sister a few years ago. There are flags from Randy's father and grandfather's funeral all folded triangle as they should be. There is also another other flag that was just folded in quarters. I did some quick research and it appears to be a Navy flag. His dad was Air Force but his grandfather was Navy so I'm guessing he got it somewhere.
Ensign - refers to US Flags flown from the stern of ships. No. 10 is the size. 1 being largest flown from battleships and 12 being from small boats. NYNY would be the shipyard where it was made. Apparently the Navy shipyards made the flags. 1918 is the year it was made.
At first I thought it was a reproduction but the more I look at it, I think its authentic. There is wear where you would expect it and there are stains. Looks like it was cut down since there is weathered rope still hanging from it.
