Transducer position

I was wondering if anyone has used their transducer and turned it up a little to see structure
before getting on top of it when spider rigging?

If so, what has been your experience on how far out the brush would be from the front of the boat when you starft seeing it
show on the graph?

I DO NOT SPIDER RIG BUT I HAVE MY TRANSDUCER WHERE I CAN TURN IT UP TO FIND MY BRUSH AND IT IS GOOD FOR ABOUT 15-20 FEET ,DEPENDS ON HOW DEEP AND HOW BIG THE BRUSH.IF U TURN IT UP TOO MUCH TO TRY TO GET A FARTHER LOOK U WILL READ BOTTOM BEFORE U SEE THE BRUSH AND IT WILL BLOT OUT THE BRUSH

Before SI ... I always had my TM mounted 2d xducer angled some to project the beam forward ...maybe 5° or so from level ...

My 2d was 30 degree cone angle. I had one setting at 22.5 degrees. Now, why did I do this?

I saw a boat on Reelfoot that had a transducer mounted on the FRONT of the TM shaft just above the power head so it looked forward. It was attached to a small FF separate from the main FFs. He used it as he was easing up to brush and said he could see the brush and the fish in it as he approached. Some of the small units can be had for under $100 and would work fine for this application.

humm. this has got me to thinking. may have to dust of my small Humminbird and play around with this idea.

There is a picture of it on the web but I can not find it.
He had a sheet metal bracket that attached to the TM shaft with one U-bolt and had a flat part facing forward with holes to mount a flat bottomed transducer.

This is my poor rendition of the mount. The one I saw had sheet metal bent to fit the curve of the TM shaft and left just enough room between the flat section to clear the screw heads on the transducer.

I found it. It is a stock piece but he had mounted it above the motor head facing forward.
