Hope to come to Alabama
I'm thinking of getting a PONDTOON custom made in Geneva. Considering coming down to get it and then taking it to Weiss Lake to break it in, then home to Penna. Would first week in April be too late for good crappie action? Any thoughts on what area of the lake would be best? Any ideas on a nice place for the wife and I to stay where I could keep boat in the water a couple of days or easy launching each day? A good guide to show me around for a day before I tried myself? Easy to get around there or easy to get in trouble? Don't want to tear it up on the first trip? Any guidance will be greatly welcomed!!!

A guide would probably be helpful as that is a big lake. I really like Mark Collins he also will sell you a bunch of proven waypoints. I havent fished there in quite a while but I still follow the lake and if memory is right, January thru April are great crappie fishing after the first of May, things get tougher. February thru march were outstanding. My first year fishing there, on my birthday, which is the end of February, I had 30 crappie and the 30 fish weighed in at 82 pounds. At that point, I had never seen a crappie over 11 inches let alone caught one. It was also the first time I understood the term Slabs! I try to book a trip every 4-5 years and am overdue to hit Weiss Lake

Thanks for the info. That sounds wonderful. I have never experienced crappie fishing like that. Hope this trip all comes together!!

Weiss is a good call that time of year, as are Neely Henry and Guntersville, all within an hour and a half of each other. There are many places to stay like what you discribe. There are numerous guides available on Weiss and all can put you onto those type of facilities, some even own a cabin or two themselves. Should be a great time to enjoy some great crappie action. A lot of folks will be long line trolling that time of year, but other techniques will be productive as well.
