with my trolling motor not wanting to run. I broke it down and one wire broke off or was already broke and was just sitting on the terminal. The armature looks ok so going to clean it up real good. Ordered the brush and seal kit for $50. Seems water inside the housing isn't a good thing. Surprised that it wasn't tripping my breaker. Hope I can get it fixed before the fruit jar.

That's the reason I walked away, when it was for sale, and didn't buy it for a spare. In my experience the only thing that will fix it is a new housing/ shaft/ motor. Even then there is no guarantee the new one won't leak.
Marty, get some Emory cloth and clean all the metal surfaces real good with it. Take a small screwdriver like one of the pocket drivers and clean all that corrosion out of the surfaces where seals go. When done cleaning spray it good with starting fluid. Starting fluid won't hurt any rubber and leaves no residue when dry. Use Diealectric grease on all connections and on your seals when putting back together.
