HELP on Barren River
Forgive a beginner looking for tips (not specific spots), but where are they? I'm not set up for spider rigging/trolling (yet) and haven't been finding them on the trees/structure up the creeks yet in any significant numbers (1/16th oz jigs with skirted tube bodies (various colors) - both stand alone and under a bobber. Also have tried minnows/bobber. Where are they? I figured they would have started moving already... Frustrated. (haven't been yet this week)

Haven't been myself in a while, trying to fill a deer tag and waiting for temps and water level to drop. If I had my guesses, they are probably suspended relating to the gobs of baitfish working back in the creeks. Tough conditions with the turnover, water pulled 1' only to bounce back and in the rise. Not much help, but if I were fishing now I'd be putting as many lines in the water as I could, staggering depth in 12-15' and covering water. No guarantees with that approach. Good luck.

Thanks for the input, Brad. I've been monitoring the water level and flow rate at the dam and the info is consistent with your report (army corps site updated daily).. I think the fish are confused, haha. I'm scrambling to get set up for trolling/spider rigging (as cheaply as possible) but for now I have to use what I have. I'm planning a trip Saturday morning, so we'll see how it goes.
Thanks again...

Thanks for the encouragement. A buddy and I went Saturday and caught 12-15 keepers twitching BG baby shad on 1/16oz head about 1'-2' above the bottom in 8-15 FOW. I had been on 2-3 trips in a row beforehand w/little or no luck. I was hoping it was timing and not me personally! haha. Anyway, when you know as little about it as I do at this point, it never hurts to ask for help. Thanks in advance for any updates you can provide after Friday's outing.

Well they'll be no Friday fishing report as Brad stuck him a big ole buck Thursday morning early and he still got the shakes. All jokes aside he did get a once in a lifetime deer. Way ta go Brad :)

Congrats to Brad! Does venison fry up as tasty as crappie? HaHa.
Went back to Barren today - same thing - couple feet off the bottom in typical spots - only a handful of keepers but 20-30 dinks - the bite is warming up, but the fatties are still scattered...

Thanks Russ, we'll go after them thus week for sure.

Posted it in the hunting forum, but here he is. I Did my homework on this one, only hunted when the wind was right, and took every precaution I could to be scent free. Feel very blessed to have taken him with my bow.
