Been reading most of the threads here and have a question. Is PVC visible on a fish finder? I have a few with PVC slats a few with acrylic strips and a few with black plastic pipe. Can see the acrylic pretty good and can barely make out the black pipe but can't seem to find the PVC at all. Been thinking it floated off? Some PVC is close to the same density as water, thus it can seem `transparent` to some sonars. A "Friend" whom has dropped several dozen GPSes them AS they go in and even with his ultra modern sonar says within a few weeks with enough algae growth they are HARD to detect. Ironically, the fish holding on them are VERY easily detected...
As Lowell stated, we have a couple friends that help with all our drops, they have the best electronics on the market and understand how to use them....if we didn't know the exact locations of our stuff you would never know it was there...sometimes the fish on it look just like a school moving around between barren areas! :)
Yes, some of it totally disappears....for us, at our lake, that is GREAT! This is why we started dropping massive amounts of PVC, it benefits the lake and most will never find it.
SI/DI should leave a shadow much like the shadows in a few pictures. Would have to be dialed down on SI distance and run pretty close to the stuff to find it but you can find it.
Agreed that the better modern sonars CAN see it at closer ranges. But as have said, fishermen do not usually target them. They DO target the "UN-stealthy" fish that might be hanging ON them however !
