Snake Den Hollow
Has anyone fished over there? I am assigned to a job in Kewanee and I am dying for a place to put in the boat and crappie fish. There is a 150 acre lake in the park called McAlister lake I think. It has a 5 crappie limit which worries me that they are not many in there. I dont care to keep them. All I want to do is pass time catching them. There is a 50 acre lake at Johnson Sauk Park as well.
How about any other spots within an hour of Kewanee?
I sure do miss working in Mattoon.
Thanks

I fished Johnson Sauk state park a few years back in the blistering summer. From the bank and slaughtered the gills there. But a nice little honey hole, check out the Hennepin Canal. Locks in geneseo, Atkinson, and Mineral are known for holding crappie. I don't have a boat so I'm limited to what info I can provide. Also lake storey in Galesburg is pretty decent.

I think, but not sure, Snake Den Hollow will be closed to fishing two weeks before waterfowl season to the close of goose season in January. You might want to call site office and get regulations. I think there are h.p. limit and trolling motor only restrictions depending which lake you are on.

And I miss fishing with you in Mattoon. We will try to figure something out when I get in the area. Prolly staying in Galesburg, so will check out Storey.

I live in Colona, head over to lake storey in Galesburg. Johnson has a ton of dinks. You could also look for any visible structure in the Hennepin canal.

Looked at Storey last night during a lull in the rain. Looks like it is drawn down about 3'? Lots of brush out of the water!

Time to call in sick and fish/Mark that brush lol

Lots and lots of crappie in story, just not alot of big ones. Snake den lakes are beautiful and fishing can be good, nice walleyes in both of the lakes mentioned above! Good luck.
