NW River 9-21-2014

My buddy and I hit the river today for crappie and bass. The crappie were playing pretty well, so that's all we fished for. We had very good numbers throwing junebug/chartreuse sliders and BGBS in Cajun cricket. The fish bit those so well we never experimented with other colors. We had a pretty nice mess of fish, the biggest at 13". We had six that were just shy of 12", and many others between 11 - 11 1/2". We kept a few that were 10 1/2". We also had many that were 9 - 10 1/4". When you figure in all the bluegill we caught, it was a nice day of catching. Our bag was rounded out with several bass (nothing big) and a shellcracker, flier and yellow perch. A great day overall.

What was the pattern for catching crappie that day? Also is there much trash on the water yet. Sounds like the bigger fish are starting to bite. Great report!!!!!!!

REDBOAT, the flier looks most similar to a crappie. However, the fins are different and they have a smaller mouth (like a bluegill almost). They are basically silverish/white/gray. I don't believe they are related to brim, but I could be mistaken. I think the biggest I've ever seen was just shy of 10". When schooled up they will hit a bare hook. Pretty cool little fish that loves to steal live bait.
