Not much fishing, what little bit I have has been with the youngun, been busy with work, have had a few good side hustles for the weekends...was actually planning on going today, last night I had a brake line go out so I spent all morning under a rusty chevy... Thank god for compression unions, saved me the hassle of pulling the bed off the truck, chevy decided it was a good idea to put brake lines on before the body...... Had to keep reminding myself to take a deep breath. Anyways 20 inches of steel 1/4 tubing, couple fittings some dot 3 and a pita of a bleeding job and I'm back on the road. Now time for Samuels birthday... Gotta get a few things together for the party.
Thanks for asking though Ed, how have you been? I see those early soy beans are starting to yellow
I have been a couple times in the past couple weeks at Pembroke but nothing really to brag about. been getting out too late and only catching about the last hour of the bite and it just ends. caught 8 one day and 9 the next time. Last time I hung into a 10 pound channel cat off of a brush pile. fought him for 45 minutes on 4# test. That was fun. Like tuna fishing. caught the cat and 7 crappie on the Duck Commander double touch rod from BnM that I just got to replace a rod that went in the drink a couple months ago. I was looking a rod that would specialize in jigging brush piles and it seems to fit the bill nicely. Got the 8 footer because I have found that the shorter the rod, the better the feel of the thump. 8 feet is not as clumsy as a longer rod and the sensitivity is pretty good. So far, I like it and the big cat put it to the test and it did well. I had that rod doubled over and the reel screaming drag. That brute was pulling the boat.
Yeah our beans are a little later maturing varieties that we planted early and the leaves are just starting to yellow. There are some guys with even earlier maturing varieties that are about ready to pick. I am trying to tie up all my loose ends right now tp be ready for the work load of harvest as we will be running a tractor and disk harrow right behind the combine to plant wheat. Timing is going to be really tight this time and it is going to be long hours, 7 days a week until we get done or rained out. Then back to the family dealings and maybe I will be able to sneak off for a day of fishing from time to time.CF
