Essex County Crappie
Hi folks, I got my NY fishing license to chase brook trout, but I'm really more interested in finding crappie this year. It's a bit of a drive for me to get there from Burlington, across the bridge at Crown Point. Driving around trying ponds at random gets expensive, but man do all those lakes look inviting for a canoe fisherman.
If anyone would be willing to share some lakes and ponds to try for crappie (via PM please) I would be grateful. I promise not to fish it out-- I don't take more than supper for me and my girlfriend. We're small people, so that means about 6 or 7 fish ;). I fish in a canoe with no motor or fish-finder, so i couldn't take all the fish if I wanted to.
Please PM any suggestions. Thanks! I'm hoping to find lakes/ponds fairly close to the Crown Point Bridge.

Boy, those New Yorkers are a tight lipped bunch. I would have sworn that you (and I) would have gotten more info than could be processed. My wife is from upstate and she never stops telling me what to do. If I knew anything about your question, I'd fill you in.

Right? :)
I actually understand because people are pretty tight-lipped about crappie in VT, too. There are only so many spots to catch them, and some people will go crazy and catch their limit every day when they find a spot.... until the spot stops producing.
The other day I ran into two old guys who were fishing from shore in a well-known spot, as I was getting out of my canoe after fishing up the creek. They said "The crappie are scarce in here this year, for some reason. Last year we caught our limit every day!" And there I am thinking no wonder they're scarce now.
Still, I'm hoping someone will trust me when I say I only take a few fish at a time, and help me with some info. (via PM)
