Went to Finch/Harrell Lake today. Ramps look good - I am going to try fish it this weekend if I can get my trailer bearings fixed. I took picks of both ramps.

If you put in at the ramp in the second picture, be very careful, that is one very stumpy area. I never launched at the other ramp.
That's one place that NOBODY talks about....
But i have caught a fish or two there a couple times.... :biggrin
For the past few months, I've been scoping these lakes out on Google maps. This is the first time I've heard anyone talk about them. I bet the fall colors will be beautiful in this area.
Thanks for sharing the pics and the info about the stumps.
Hopefully, sometime soon, I can add these lakes to my visited list. Let us know if you get to fish it. Good luck.
I love to look for new places to fish on google maps. My next adventure will be at Felsenthal, near Crosset. My brother in-law said he cut his teeth fishing there with his dad. Others I am thinking about are Lake Providence, Yucatan Lake, to name a few. There are lakes in Louisiana that are not the top record producers, but they are consequently not fished hard. I enjoy the solitude of a quiet day on the water. I am also really looking forward to our annual get together at D'Arbonne. That is a great time, especially after the fishing!
Thanks for the heads up. It sure is gorgeous; a 2 mile, narrow stretch that goes North for 2 miles or so before connecting with Finch Lake.
More pics to come - I epoxied my site glass on my oil bath hub (it's lexan) back together and it worked! Fishin' tomorrow!
Well I lucked out on Saturday - I met the owner of the camp, Scott Whitlock, while putting in my boat at the Finch lake ramp. He personally showed me the East side of the Lake where it connects to Harrell lake. There is a creek bed that snakes its way from the boat dock to the East. I saw it to be as deep as 22 feet on my depth finder. But I must caution, this lake is very stumpy, with Cypress knees and stumps everywhere. Scott new where he could open his boat up at, but it wasn't for long. Outside of the channel, the water was maybe 5 foot deep and stumpy. The channel was in many places only 20 foot wide.
Needless to say - I lost one nice crappie right at the boat while grabbing for my net and one bream. Sunday, I went to Terral Island on D'Arbonne and had the same results. I guess I can attribute that to not having much experience fishing for crappie in the summer. The water temp was 80 degrees at both locations. I wonder why I was the only one fishing for crappie on both lakes.
