First Trip in Middle TN
Hi CCers,
I am taking two young boys bream fishing today if the rain will ever stop. These boys have never been fishing in their lives and will have a great time just being in a boat on the water. But, I would really like to increase their chances of catching a few bream. My plan right now is to launch in Sanders Ferry of Old Hickory lake and fish that area (I have a small boat).
I have never fished this lake or any other lake in Middle Tn. If you guys have a better suggestion that is still somewhat protected and close to Madison, TN (just north of Nashville), please let me know.
Also, are there any good bait shops in Madison or Hendersonville that you guys would recommend?
Thanks,

First trip in TN was a success, no crappie, but two very happy young boys! The boys had the time of their lives and we caught a bream on just about every cast. We used red wigglers under a float about 2-3 ft deep. It turned out to be a beautiful Sat. evening and we fished till dark. I put in and fished Drakes Creek branch of Old Hickory Lake; fishing was definitely better on the rocky bank opposite Sanders Ferry Rd.
On a side note, I couldn't believe the recreational boat traffic that far up into Drakes yesterday! I would like to explore more of the lake, but not till that calms down.

best shops I know are around are Poindexters and Flippers off 109 near Gallatin TN. Learn to fish for Bass. Good fishing on Old Hickory for Bass. Trolling in Drakes for Crappie can be productive. Fishing should improve as it gets cooler. Boat traffic should get better as well. Good to see you out with the kids. have fun.

Better than no bite at all. Now what you could do is go to woods, set up your treestand on the waters edge, and fish from you treestand while your hunting for deer. I got just the spot too. Problem is what do you do when you have a 2 pound crappie on the line and a 150 class 10 point walks up to you? Better be prepared, LOL.
Im having a heck of a year. I have been working on my boat all summer getting ready for fall fishing. Finally got done and took it out last weekend. Dang if I don't have a water leak at the base of the motor. Everything I own needs work done to it. Boat, Trucks, ATV, Tractor, Generator. I cant win right now. Im heading out next week to go up north deer hunting. Im trying out a new bow made from a walnut riser and snow skis for limbs. Dang thing shoots good.
