I read mostly about people using Matzuo black-chrome sickle hooks. What about the bronze ones? #2 bronze tend to run about $15 less per 1000 around here compared to the black-chrome. I have use Eagle Claw 570M bronze Aberdeen in the past with success. I just have never tried any Matzuo products yet. They always just looked cheap in that packaging.
This is just my experience, others may be different. The bronze I used early on we're real bad to rust and corrode. The Red had a problem with breaking right where they came out of lead head and like the pictures FatMan posted they were very ireagular. I have found the Black chrome to be more uniform,stronger,sharper and no rusting. Here is the best place to buy hooks I have found.

Thanks for the link cray! That price isn't far off what I can get the bronze for locally. I guess it would be worth paying for shipping since there has been so much trouble with the other colors.
My Wife has been having the ijnjections a couple X yearly for the last 6 years and has been very happy with the results. The same Dr looked at my knee and said dont waste your time, not gonna work, time for a new knee. From her experience, she gets the injections is sore 2-3 days then life is good again for several months.

I like either the black or gold. Matzuo still seems to have dimensional issues the the eye and leg from bend to eye. The hooks are sharp and a bit bigger (hook gap) than standard EC or Mustad so you may need to provide some mold relief for the hook point. I never had a breaking issue but did have a lot of off location or incomplete eyes with a few batches,
I've only heard about the problems that happened with the red ones, the ones I had never had any problems. The regular bronze I've never tried so others will have to chime in on those.
The only problem I had with the black chrome were #4's, they would break off at the bend inside a jig head, but Matzuo was excellent and replaced the original 1000 and sent me an extra 1000 for my trouble, They have fixed the problem with the 4's. My 2's and 6's I've not had any problem with. Now I still have a LOT of old stock mustad and eagle claw aberdeen hooks and still use them.

The Bronze ones were the first to have heat treat problems and I even broke a bunch of them while just tying them. So it the thread will break a hook, I know the fish can! Also the rusting trouble with the Bronze ones and not just their brand, I like Black Chrome ones best as they don't rust easy and I just like them better.
as for the hooks, their sharpness is unsurpassed unless you go to a Gamakatsu or Owner and they will cost you a ton more. I love Gamakatsu hooks, but for crappie jig hooks there is no competition in my mind due to cost of a super sharp hook that doesn't dull easy at all!
