2014 Labor Day Fun on Lake Murray
After not having any luck in the deer stand Friday or Saturday I was itching to try my hand with the Crappie yesterday morning. The weatherman said it'd be a hot one and, for once, they nailed it! :Rofl It was a scorcher! Sunday afternoon I uncovered the old Ranger and gave her a good cleaning inside and out. I love seeing that old boat shine and I think she fishes better when the floors are not littered with old jigs bodies and fishing line :biggrin

On to the fishing, me and a buddy left the landing just as the sun was coming up and headed to our first stop.

Things started out slow and continued to be slow for most of our trip. We single pole jigged most of the day in water 5-15 foot deep. The fish we caught were holding tight to brush, woody cover, and docks, seeking every little bit of shade they could find. We picked up 1 here, 1 there until our last stop where we doubled our catch. It always seems that you have to find that one spot holding 8-10 to have a good trip numbers wise. It's rare to catch multiple fish on multiple locations this time of year. We didn't catch as many big fish as past trips, but we had a few decent ones and most that were caught were good candidates for the grease pan. Water temps were in the upper 80s and lower 90s and yellow jigs on 1/32 oz heads were the baits of choice. We threw back a handful of fish and kept 20 crappie and 2 bream for the knife. We also had the pleasure of wrastling 5 gar fish AKA Lake Murray Swordfish. Each of those swordfish got to meet the dip net handle and recieved what appeared to be an aweful head before being released back to the water :banghead :Rofl
Below are some pictures of the fish on the water and the final cooler shot.
