Onix 10 .gpx Nav Data Upload From Humminbird PC Fails

I use Humminbird PC 4.3.8 quite a bit. I have a 798ci hd that import waypoints into pretty often without issues. The Onix 10 uses the .gpx file for the upload. When I try upload the .gpx file that works fine on the 798 to the Onix it comes up with "failed". It did load one .gpx fail that only had a track in it and no waypoints. The test.gpx fails when I try to upload it to the Onix 10 after saviing to the SD card as a .gpx file, the CrappieGuideTrack.gps uploads fine. Any idea why I cannot get any .gpx file to upload that has waypoints? I also have the latest Onix 10 update applied to the unit.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Did you highlight "Waypoints" (where it changes to blue with white letters)...and then right click on Waypoints ... And then "Save As"...??

(Every thing you want transferred to the card must be highlighted...you can highlight the entire right pane of HBPC ... Or just highlight certain listings in the left pane)...(I think)...

I tried "save as" all highlighted in blue like below and still get failed, the Onix sees the .gpx file, I can open the .gpx file with HBPC and it shows all the way points. I did exactly what was in the bottom half of http://www.humminbird.com/Category/S...Q/Convert2GPX/, I am not exporting anything from another unit, this is a brand new file. Also did a search in the Onix and ION operation guide for upload and got zero hits in the manual. I am also using HBPC 4.3.8, and Onix is on 1.200.

I found this in the ONIX manual (that seems the gpx file has to be manually loaded in the Files menu of the ONIX)...

Are you saying that you get all the way to step 5 where the ONIX sees the file ... But when you select it, you get a failed message...??

Correct I get to step 5 select the file, and it comes up with "upload fails". These are the same .gpx files that work on the 798ci I have, only I upload from HBPC to the SD card for the 798.

One thing I am doing is the gps coordinates are in Microsoft Excel, I then save it as a .csv (comma seperated value), I then take the .csv file and open it in GPSBabel and set it with HumminbirdExtensions=1 and save it as a .gpx file (screenshot below). I then open the .gpx file with HBPC, and from there I would then export it to my SD card for my 798CI, and it worked fine. This allows me to create alot of waypoints very quick without hand typing each one into HBPC.

What I did do was take the coordinates from WPT01 and created a new file in HBPC and manually typed the exact coordinates in that were in the file that failed, I then was able to upload that one waypoint to the Onix. the waypoint details looked identical in the file that fails and the one that works. I am going to hand type all of them in HBPC and see if it will work tomorrow.

I went ahead and created a new .gpx file using HBPC. What I did next was opened up the .gpx file that failed using GPSBabel with notepad since they are XML files, I also opened up the one I created within HBPC with notepad. In the screenshot below the top file is the one GPSBabel created, the bottom one is the one HBPC created. I am guessing that the Onix 10 cannot read the XML format that GPSBabel created even though you can edit it, modify it, then export and it works fine on the 798CI is have, just not the Onix. I have not tried the one I hand typed in on HBPC with the same entries but I am almost assuming it will work.

I would be curious what others are using to convert .csv files to .gpx files they may work with the Onix.

I'm not sure gf ...I'm sure it's something in one of the transfers or conversions ...

Maybe saving the file from GPS Babel in 1 of the other formats that HBPC will recognise (HBPC wil even recognise the Lowrance .usr format)..:

You might get more input at bbc...there's way more bass boys than crappie guys invested in the ONIX ...

Well apparently it is the way GPSBabel creates the .gpx file, even though it works on the 798CI it will not work on the Onix. I copied the gps coordinates from the .gpx file in HBPC that GPSBabel created and pasted them in a new file in HBPC, they both look identically the same looking though HBPC. The one i created in HBPC imported into the Onix just fine. Opening up the .gpx files with notepad shows that the XML formats are entirely different between each other and both will work in the 798 but not the Onix.

I don't know if this is just the way GPS Babel handles this ONIX issue ... Or if there may be another solution...

At least you have found a suitable workaround until we can find more info...

Solution is not bad, I just open the .gpx file that GPSBabel created in HBPC, highlight all the waypoints and click copy, then create a new file, create a new waypoint and paste all the waypoints to the new file and save it. I can then copy the new .gpx to the SD card and the import works fine.
