How I cleaned the fog off my lenses in 57 easy steps! And I know what some of you are gonna say, just buy a new ride! Well, can't do that so this is the next best thing.

Before (although there has already been a little sanding done in this pic, but it really kinda looked like this anyway.
I could not believe how much sanding is necessary before you get down to plastic that can actually be buffed.

Ain't perfect, but good enough for light to pass through!
At first I used the polishing sand paper (dono, maybe 1000 grit or more) that came with this kit I bought but I was getting nowhere. I ended up using 320 grit (on one of those spongy things) just to get down through all that pitting (the car is 10 years old). Don't press too hard if you do this cause you can leave some deep scratches (I did). Anyway it went like this:
sand with 320 grit, till you get tired, take break!
then 400 grit, till you get tired, take break!
then polishing paper, till you get tired, take break!
then sponge on drill tip with "heavy scratch" remover polish
then sponge on drill with "light scratch" remover polish
then optical grade polishing compound and you're done.
Or you can just buy another vehicle. The latter is your best choice believe me! This wasn't fun.
