Questions for Humminbird experts

I am about to order a Humminbird 959 CI HD DI and have a few questions.

1. Have any of you found that you needed an external antenna for your GPS?

2. What minimum depth should this unit be able to read (at trolling motor speed)?

3. If I mount my transducer inside of the hull, rather than on the transom, should I get good depth readings when running in the mid 40's mph?

4. Again, if I mount my transducer inside of the hull will I get good down imaging readings?

5. Where can I buy a cigarette lighter power plug for this unit?

No expert, but I can offer some advise.my experience is with the 998.
1.yes
2.in clear mold, real shallow.less than 5ft.
3.with my 998, I run the stock all in one transducer, with speeds to 50mph.others run an extra 2nd transducer so the can mount there stock transducer up higher to help pretext it.
4.i don't no the answer to this question
5.i don't think it would be hard to find this, but I really haven't looked

5. HB does not offer any type of power connector for that end of the cable...

The PC 11 power cord comes bare wire (on the power end)...the user provides the connection to the power source...

#2 I think the official minimum water depth is supposed to be something like 3 feet but I usually can get 1 foot water depth readings with the units I have tested.

#3 really all depends on what speed your boat hull starts getting air bubbles under it in the area the transducer is installed in. This is part of the testing you should do prior to installing the transducer though.

#4 Yes if you do a good job of installing the transducer.

Greg, you beat me by.2 ft.but I believe that I can go shallower.i just stopped because I was getting concerned about bumping something with my transducer, but I was still getting good sonar returns when I stopped. ....http://i826.photobucket.com/albums/z...psejbrssr7.jpg

If I had to buy my own transducers I would probably be a little more cautious with them, :biggrin
