What you think the arrangement of this circle of fish is, and your guess as to which species? Also anything else of interest in the picture. BTW didn't try to catch any to see what they were.Attachment 170479

Im Brand new to this, but I would say that the fish is small enough to be crappie, white bass, or shad. But they seem to be stacking up on top of each other like a christmas tree and from what I have read... is the characteristics of schooling habits of crappie. I guess without catching one, it would be hard to know for sure. Shad tend to be schooled much tighter I would thing, and white bass school more horizontally, based on my research. Just my thinking. Would take what someone else says over what I have said if there is a conflict in answers.
Great pic and post though! I like stuff like this, it helps me learn!
You are better at this than you think Lowepro...
I agree with your assumptions...
Also...there is very interesting changes in bottom hardness in that image...indicative of a "transition area" that could be very productive at times..
That spot definately needs a waypoint on it...

What depth is the area? Would def. go back and set up on them though. A hook will tell the story fast. The three returns to the lower right have a good shadow and seem to look like xmas trees.
Here is full sized snap from HumViewer....... Is there a way you can tell difference between softer bottom or deeper water?Attachment 170480
I believe the harder the bottom the brighter the return
brush is right, the harder the bottom the stronger the return. Also switch over to the red/green screen and you will see the hard show up as red. A lot use this for shell beds. Here you can see the peegravel and rock showing up on this point, the green is the mud and silt.

After finding these type spots you can then go into another pallet to see structure and if it is holding fish. You can also see how the gravel is reflecting stronger on the side that is facing the beam.
