Finally got my first crappie pushing Arkie

I've just started this pushing method and you know until you catch one you are not quite sure how it will feel due to the 3 oz sinker.
So I tried to get caught, then get loose, the just barely go by a brush pile to see how well all that worked.
During that last part I found that you can control the Arkie very well especially as I was using my broadband sonar to give me warning that the bush was about to come into play. I use my structure scan ducer on a stick up front so when the brush comes into view you are there!

This is just showing the sinker and arkie on the BB &
DS although you don't see the arkie on DS due to the cone width.

I tell you, this stuff is getting so high tech I may be outta my pay grade. Congrats on making it work.

We were pushing Arkies the other day on a big flat in open water about 20fow.....with 15 feet of line out with the 3 oz weight going 1.8 mph I figure with the line layed back at a 45 degree angle that the crankbait was running about 8ft. Deep....we caught 22.

That's great. In my case that 12" one hit and I saw a mess of them a little further on by they went deep real quick. It was very hot that day and I just brought her home very pleased that I caught one on an arkie. I'm on Lake Hartwell in SC
Did you keep running the arkie or change to minnows etc. I assume keep trolling. I was doing 0.8 mph.

Totally understand how you feel but it is learnable. Someone to help would be beneficial. Some how it makes it more fun once you get the hang of how the electronics can help you. (you still have to get them to bite:biggrin)

Larry, you might try speeding up some next time. Try 1.2 to 1.7 and see how you do. I find 1.5 is kind of the starting point.

I sure will. I usually do change speed a lot when I'm on fish. Our lake is a treed lake and often I try to run the edge of the trees at about 30 feet just to locate them during this time of the year.

That is the part I struggle with. I can sometimes see the fish but can't get them to bite. Hand grenade anyone??

I just changed out an Elite 7 for a HDS7 touchscreen. Really nice unit, now I got to change my transducer so I can get the side scan feature, (The Elite did not have side scan, Lowrance just swapped me out since the HDS touch would work using the Elite 7 transducer.) Liked your screen shots. Neat to watch your lure in the water. I got a screen shot of my spoon bouncing off the bottom and a fish hit and then reeling him in. Cool stuff.

Great on getting a T7 as that is the unit I use also. I have a T12 at the helm but when I get serious I put the 12 up front and the 7 back at the helm. Works great. Let me if I can help in anyway. I am finding I use side scan much more than I thought I would. Grenades are good
