Greenwood 8/3
Well i havent been on CDC in a while but i figured i would post something since the posts slow down in the heat of summer. i havent been fishing at the lake in a while but i have been making quite a bit of trips to mark brush. i have marked alot of areas where i thought fish would be and my dad and i decide to go wet a line. We were surprised on how many brush piles you had to fish before you would find one that had fish. We did get on some fish on a few so it turned out to be a great day. Maybe Ink can have some input on this, but it seems that there is no rhyme or reason to why some hold fish and some dont. We caught fish on brush in the creeks and we caught fish on brush on the main lake. But we would be heading to another brushpile that was exactly like the one we just caught fish on and we would get a big whopping goose egg. Same depth, brush looks the same on depthfinder, pretty much the same area but not a single crappie on it.
We tried jigs but by far minnows were the ticket. live bait caught almost all of our fish. We fished brush from 16' to 22'. It really is refreshing to have one rod
in your hand drop it down and feel that thump, not have to worry about dealing with 8 rods. 22 fish made it into the cooler. We threw some smaller ones back.
The only negative of this type of fishing is its summer so there are boats everywhere. I think there must be a game called "how close can we ride to the guy fishing". I was pretty impressed though. A guy came by us pulled on a tube and waved a beer at us and he didnt spill a single drop. That is some skill. But my dad said he had probably already spilled it all before he got to us. hahaha

Good to see a nice mess of fish caught, seems nobody's posting much of anything here lately. As far as the brush goes, that's just the way it is. The fish move around with the bait, the brush you caught fish on this week may be void of fish next week. Only certain brush seem to be good most of the time, while others occasionally, and some almost never hold fish even though the same kind of brush is used, same water depth, and same general area. I can't figure why that occurs, but it does. Congrats to you and your pops on a nice haul of Greenwood slabs.

Thanks for the report and congrats on the day on the lake with your dad. Nice mess of keepers, every time I try brush that's the luck I have.

Nice looking mess of fish from the 'Wood! Glad to hear you and your pops were able to get out and catch a nice mess.
x2 what Ink said about the brush. That is exactly my experience as well. When fishing brush I just keep moving till I find the piles that are holding fish.

Way to go. Way to catch them. Sounds like you need a good slingshot. ;-)
