Propeller Question

I bought my first boat about a month ago now. At the time I didnt realize but the Trim Tab was broken when I purchased it. I ordered and installed a new one. Problem is now, there is only ONE pretty precise area I can have the Trim Tab fin in order for the propeller to not clip it when its running. I assume this is how the old one was broken. I've done some google searches, but can't find what size the propeller should be. Maybe someone who knows will see this and let me know.

My Motor:
1993 Yamaha 90 HP
Outboard
90ETLJ - Model # I assume, only markings I can really find that specify anything.


Currently installed prop:
Apollo XHS S/S
993145
13 1/8 - 19

Diameter of the prop is too big.

This is a pretty good source of info. I think from your info on your prop it is a 19" prop. Should be able to determine what size your motor should have.

13 1/4 by 19 should be standard prop. Think you asked this on another thread. I think you either have the wrong thrust washer installed or are missing the thrust washer. If you have pulled the prop does it have a washer between housing and back of prop? When installing aftermarket props some take a different spacer than stock. Since you bought this used anything could have happened when previous owner started changing props. You could pull prop,check for spacer, if missing you need one if not see if it has numbers. I would find the telephone number for Apollo and give them a call. I'm sure they can help you.

Thanks for the help gentlemen. I will try and call them Friday, I don't get off work early enough during the week to make it before they close. I did inspect my motor some more when I got home. There is a washer on there with the numbers 991212. Maybe I will get lucky and just replace a washer or something haha.

Acutally I have found 2 parts that my be referred to as the washer. The first one I referrenced is more along the lines of your typical washer (in shape). The properller would butt up against this one when installed on the motor. The second peice I have found slides into the rear end of the propeller and the nut tightens down against this piece when the prop is installed. These numbers read 826074.

With out pictures it's really hard to tell what you have. Basically your saying right now you have 2 washers or spacers between prop and gear housing? If so take one of them off, put prop on and see iff blade tips will clear tab. I would take out the thinner of the 2 first. Then try with the other one and do same thing. If you find one of them lets the prop clear tab then torque down and spin prop checking to make sure you have clearance inside housing and nothing is rubbing.

Sorry Cray, I should have thought to upload pictures. There is only 1 washer between prop and gear housing. Here are pictures. The second thing I was talking about actually sits itself down inside the prop and have grooves for the drive shaft to slip into. The attachment dosnt work for me. Now that you describe it. The one with grooves for shaft is the actual spacer. That spacer once in place should be against the washer. Let me ask you another question, which direction does the prop tip need to go to clear the tab? And if you removed the spacer will it clear?
