You need ol smokey you can use it anytime. Don't have a mercury but does have a big Johnson. Haha
I bought a used 1995 55hp Yamaha to replace the 25 Merc on my Tracker. The one man shop where I bought it installed it for me. I developed a leak in the foot and after two attempts at repair, he decided the housing was corroded and he found a new unit on Ebay and replaced the foot with the new one. Now the question. He said the unit was $1000 but he would split the cost and I owed him $500. That sounded pretty reasonable to me at the time. He was such a good guy to deal with I now wonder if he lost money on the overall deal.
Be curious to see what yours runs.
If he got it from a shop somewhere that figure probably isn't out of the ballpark. However, if you dig around some you generally find them for about $500 or so. If you by one from the manufacturer, you can easily double that $1000 price tag. I know, I've bought 3 over the years for my 60HP Mercury.
