What caused the bright area on the left side of this image?
It's from a recording, and there was no odd boat motion from waves or turning during the run.

I would guess it is a gravel bar. Only a guess, looks like mudd bottom on both sides.
Sounds good to me but I dont know. Have a question bout the Lowrance side imaging. In the image on both sides of the screen it darkens up to the point where you cant see anymore. What is the reason for that? I have a humminbird 899 and it doesnt do that. The full range on both sides is visible. But my uncle's lowrance does. And he was wondering why.
Hard bottom, probably a little rock bar like Redge said.
I have a 998 and it will do that based on water depth and with setting. Shallow water and say 150 fit setting will get the sides darkened out like that.Quote:

The bream beds are shown on a mud bottom...
Right above this (on the left)...is the gravel point coming into the SI image...
Gravel reflects more of the sound pulse than mud does...

It's a shadow from a USO.
I would think it was a gravel bar, but is awfully symmetrical to be a natural gravel bar, and the bottom edge is almost perfectly straight for quite a stretch.....I'd like to see more of what is to the left of it......Looks like something man made to me.
