My depth on my Humminbird 859 DI is messing up in the 2d sonar. The image on the screen is correct, shows baitfish and fish like always, shows the bottom and had the depth lines on the screen so I know pretty close the depth. But the actual depth number is going haywire like im in a foot or water or less. It will say its anywhere from 0.9ft-71feet and constantly changing even though the bottom on my screen isnt. Its mounted on my trolling motor.
Bet you have a Minnkota with the maximizer built in too!
TM or Transom mounted transducer?
My DF does that sometimes, and it's usually when the transducer has hit something and kicked up one or two 'notches' on the kick-up plastic connector. Repositioning it, and tightening it a bit, helps.

Just for the fun of it, you may change your settings from freswater to saltwater. Seems like I heard sometime in the past that it made a difference. Maybe I should do a forum search, but then I wouldn't get to guess at what may be wrong.
I have it on a Minn Kota Fortrex 80# trolling motor. I will try the saltwater thing. I will try the default option as well on friday. Also will take pics to post.
After searching a bit. Check your software level. Some of the holder software had trouble with interference which was corrected in the later versions. Another thing that does this is 2 sonar units running on the same frequency at the same time. I have read where the saltwater setting may help, but I didn't search long enough to find it.
