Where do you guys, that fish tidewater look for the crappie, around structure, around bends on the slow side, in creeks or what. Do you find that they rise with the tide, or stay deeper. I have never fished the NW don't know how bad the tide is. It is fairly fast on the pamunkie.
The Northwest River is not tidal. Any water movement is created by winds. Strong S/SW winds bring the water in, or up. N/NE winds drop the water level. Relatively light winds don't move any water. In my experience, the crappie on that river tend to suspend most of the time. I'd say the most productive depth would be 7 feet. Good luck.
Thr Northwest river can be hard at times. Slow trolling in the fall works well. Casting jigs in spring is good also. Just a few docks on the river but they are shallow water. Did ok Saturday but Sunday went back and did poorly. Bule gills are on the beds now and are bitting good. Have to get in the thick of the trees and cypress knees. They are very close to the banks. Water is about normal coloc right now, level was up due to the winds. That makes them go back into the tree line. Sidekick and I saw bowfin jumping out of the water. I don't normaly fish above the state line much stay down in NC part of the river. Hope this helps you out.
