Caught a crappie last Thursday at Lake Wylie and when cleaning it I found several long, skinny, red worms in the fillet. Any one have any info on these worms.

Caught a crappie last Thursday at Lake Wylie and when cleaning it I found several long, skinny, red worms in the fillet. Any one have any info on these worms.
We see them occasionally here in fish. They will normally be a dark red round area in the fillet. If I see them, I will cut the area around the red area out and check the rest of the fish really good for more. They are not harmful when the fish is properly cooked.
Parasites,,, nothing your digestive system can't handle lol,,,,, we used to pull them out of the fish all the time when ocean fishing,,,, Just make sure you deep freeze anything you decide to eat for at least 30 days to ensure a parasite free fish or game is Number #1 rules in eating game,,,
Soak them in salt water and they should come out overnight.
I see them pretty regularly. Seems they're worse the warmer the water gets. They say you can eat 'em and be fine, but I don't have the nerve to try it. I just cut 'em out.
