Yes these kind of heads are Shad Dart style. They can be good and have tied a lot of guys over the years, but seemed to have slowed down on who gets them now. Nice jig!
Really like the color combo, nice tie!
The Dart is from a hilts Mold (ebay special). 1/16oz and I really like the mold. I remember the dart from years ago and wanted to give some a try so I played around and got the mold. (I buy molds on ebay quite often and mold plus shipping must be less than $10)
I have used it quite a bit this spring and really like it. that sloped head gives a real nice action. Unfortunately most of my fishing is done with 1/32 ounce jigs, heavier get snapped too much. But my next mold is gonna be a Do It shad dart 1/64 and 1/32 ounce so, yes I am very happy with the mold
I like the head and the color.
Can you long line troll that head?
I just tried it out last night and this morning. Works well!!! Thanks again KDog!!
very nice jig! i bought the from for the 1/32 ounce and 1/64 ounce shad dart mold about 2 months ago and they just showed up about 2-3 week ago most likely cause i ordered a ton of there stuff with it 3 other molds eyes for pyramid sinkers. even order a horse head mold got the smallest crane swivel i could find etc... etc... to bad they did not get here for in time of the swap. but any ways i am just surprised more don't use those shad dart jig heads they work darn good. proved that point last night lol's any ways best of luck... by the way very nice tie and jig heads can't say it enough!
I am not sure why the "Shad Dart" style has fallen from popularity. In my mind the angled face should impart action especially when trolled or retrieved at low speed. Earlier this year, fished them in a tailwater and was really impressed at the action. Could not see the jig, but my line was constantly rising and falling. Caught a bunch of fish ranging from Blue Gill through Saugeye. Originally fished them tipped with a crawler and got great results. Tipped one with a small grub tail and got sallmed so fast, I wish I had more of the grubs.
Thus far, I think it shows a lot of potential, You have a lot of versatility with what you can do to it. The jig had a lot of surface area for its size, thus more color can be applied with better separation. Tails are easy to keep short and if you cast it on a long shank hook tying possibilities are endless.
This link shows a lot of ideas but just scratches the surface http://tinyurl.com/nznz92l
Btw, I believe the yellow is Highlighter yellow from Powders by the pound and the purple is Purple rave from Roseys
