I am making my first trip to Michigan. The family, and I, are staying on Bass Lake. Don't know much about it. Would like to target crappie, but am open to all types of fishing. I live in IL and target mostly crappie and Large Mouth. Any tips or info on this smaller lake would be helpful. Cant find out a lot of info on line.
I have never fished that bass lake. Looks interesting with the islands. Do you have a boat with electronics?
going to rent a boat, bet the electronics are not a HDS10 or anything. I know it has, The points off and island points look like a good place to try for eyes at least.
Yup get a lake map a bait shop in the area should have one and move from there.
Royboy has some good advice. Local info is usually the most accurate.
The map I have shows that lake to be 3'-6' deep average, with a hole 19'- 29' & 2 or more around 12'. My Michigan DNR Crappie lake guide shows no Crappie
in this lake. For walleye try Long or Silver lakes. Arbutus Lake between Traverse City & Kingsley has Crappie.
To be sure check local tackle shops.
I fished Bass Lake about 10 years ago, I remember there being quite a few largemouth. I used hula grubs in some pockets around the island, did well. Got a big one using a frog around some lily pads. Also saw some BIG bluegills.

I can't speak for TPS75 but myself (and some of the others on this forum) utilize the "Sportsman Connection" maps books sold at Meijer, Wal-mart, Gander Mnt, Cabelas etc...
The books are sold be geographic area southest, southwest...
You look at a particular lake in that area and, IF the DNR has ever done a lake survey, there will be survey information on that lake.
Great way to find out what fish are/were in a lake at a specific day and time. Some of the surveys are out of date (taken in the 90's) yet it is still useful information.

It is a list of lakes that shows what kind of fish that are in them. I got mine from the Michigan DNR. Each MDNR region should have them for their area.
