13lb 12oz bass found floating this morning
My crappie fishing buddy David McIntyre of Ivanhoe sent me these pictures of a bass he found floating this morning in Stump Lake, located in Ivanhoe south of Woodville. David was on his regular Saturday morning milk run around Stump Lake when he spotted several turtles feeding on something on the surface of the lake. Curiosity got the better of him and he went over to investigate. He said the turtles had already consumed half of the tail and part of one side of the bass. He estimated that without that weight loss the fish would have easily eclipsed the fourteen pound mark. Consider: What are the odds that this fish is the heaviest bass in the lake? Maybe. It is all a guess, but from what I remember of my Statistics class, there is a good chance it is not.
As a steward of the resource, it is comforting to know that one bass lived a long life, prospered, and in the end met a natural death.
We've been doing pretty good on Rayburn on the crappie too.
