Torrava 80 intermittent problem
The problem is intermittent and is driving me and certified service center nuts. The motor has no power sometimes. When it happens, it still has steering and the green system ready light is on. The problem started about a month ago and has been to the service center 2 times. The TM is on it's forth season and has worked flawlessly until now. The problem happens with the foot pedal and remote. Sometimes it takes 15 minutes to restart and has also took up to 3 hours to restart.
local MK service center put a new control board in ($312.15). Took it to the lake last night and within 50ft of trolling on speed 4 with the foot pedal, same problem. Prop will not spin but has steering and green system ready light is on. Put it in the stowed position and unhook foot pedal and throw out the anchors. Set there for 15 minutes while in the stowed position and drop it back in the water. Same thing, prop won't spin but has steering using the remote. Left the motor down and 5 minutes later it works fine using the remote. Continued using the remote for 1 hour, speed settings from 2-10. I ran it on 10 with auto pilot from bridge to bridge (1/2 mile). GPS speed was 2.6 on a Triton TR19. I hooked up the foot pedal and went back the same route and same speeds using the foot peddle. No problems what so ever. I continued using the foot pedal changing the speed and actually trying to get it to screw up again. It worked flawlessly for the rest of the evening. There was no boat traffic or no wind and for the most part, the water was smooth as glass.
Things I have done to the boat:
1) Brand new group 29 batteries and checked the voltage output on the batteries and at the front of the boat
2) Brand new 6 GA wire from batteries to front of boat
3) Brand new 50A breaker
4) Eliminated the plugin and used #10 stainless steel screws, washer & nuts to connect battery wires to TM wires
5) quadruple checked all connections. All are very tight and have zero corrosion.
6) I've had my old 24V cable steer on the boat and had zero issues from it.
I plan on taking it out this weekend to do more testing. If you can think of anything for me to test/try please let me know.
Thanks,
Bart
