THX for the tip / drop shot deep gills

Thx to those that helped out on (where does the big ones go)! Went out this morning and looked for deep drops with gravel or rocks. Wife and I stopped counting after 50. Was hooking one after the other and kept a mess of hump nosed gills with some others mixed in.

This was the 3rd point we looked at but finally found the hard stuff with fish. Used a drop shot rig and a cricket to get down to them. Thx again for putting us on some keepers! :ThumbsUp

nice mess there! is this your first time drop shotting? i end out seeing a small sentence or blurp if you will in a infishermen magazine about 3 years ago on drop shotting deep gill on the rocks and have been doing it ever since they used soft plastics in it and i use bait like wax worms etc... etc.. but like you were saying and showing here it is very new and very effective method for taking gill but be aware those that use it this method is not legal in all states. any ways nice mess of gills there wish it was me. lol's got to get out....

how could it not be legal ? Weight on bottom ,one hook up the line , or are you using multiple hooks ? Actually trying to figure out what drop shot type rig you are using . Just curious .

jig, I use this rig a lot for deep crappie just never thought about gills before. When we found these fish the best way to get to them I thought would be this rig.

eagle 1, I only use one hook about 2ft up from the sinker, not sure about his rig. The bell sinkers I had on hand were small so we used two tied in at the end...boy we had a blast.

Drop shot works for a lot of panfish situations. Gliding over the top of coontail, fishing downed timber, or when they are on beds in deeper water, even in rivers in current.

I generall use 1/16-1/4oz depending on depth and species that I am fishing for, and 12"-18" from the weight is my hook.

I have used it with worms and crickets when fishing standing timber with a 12' jigging pole too. Drop shot rigs seem pretty weedless, or don't snag timber as bad as a hook below the weight, imo.

Probably the weight being below the hook helps pull off any snags
