I plan to fish Saturday morning starting at daylight till around noon. I won’t know until Friday night where I’m going. I might fish Lilly Pond or maybe drive over to Swoope Pond at Courtland for the first time if the wind is going to stay calm.
If the wind is going to get up I’ll probable fish Limestone or Beaverdam Creek. Be a great time for north Alabama kayakers to meet and trade tips.

Man I wish i could go this weekend. My parents are moving saturday and I have to be there to help. Thanks for letting us know! good luck.

OK - if for no other reason than to return his WONDERFUL kayak (cause mine is on order and will be here soon) - I'll let Mr. Ditch drag my 64 yr old butt out of bed and all of the the 61 miles away - just to watch Ditch catch fish. I figure HE will get there by 5 AM - so if I'm there by 6:30, Ditch will have figured out where the fish are and I may even get a bite or 2 myself. For those of you that have NOT fished w/ Ditch....be prepared! He WILL out fish / out catch you at least 3 to 1 ....it usually runs more like e5 to 1 for me, Seriously - he DOES put on a clinic! I would be fun to cover this place with a bunch of kayaks so - ya'll come!
The weatherman is saying the rain tomorrow will hold off until after lunch so I'm heading to Swoope Pond in the AM.
Any information from the board members would be great since I've never fished the area.
Ditch, I have been there 1 time...I can tell you it has some water around 16' deep and a ditch that comes in from the Creek that you can get a bass boat through if the water is up. Also a public boat launch right beside a house there on the pond. I know one guy that his house backs up to the pond, I have not got to talk with him lately to find out how the crappie are biting. Good luck, right now I am waiting on my 10 year old daughter to make up her mind if she wants to go fishing or not....we might end up trolling around in Swoops Pond tomorrow just to watch you pull in a few fish. Last year we saw you catch a nice bass out in Lilly Pond.

Thanks for the info, 16 feet may be too deep for me to figure out, LOL. I wanted to try something new, but not get run over by a big boat. I'd hear good things about Swoope before and knew most of my normal creeks and sloughs would be blown out, high and muddy after the rain. Hope you can make it!
Swoope Pond was very interesting, clouds of baitfish with larger fished mixed in everywhere in the pond, but catching was far and few. I fished from 6:30 till about 11:00 catching a dozen or so Crappie, 8 that would measure. The pond is very deep with many areas having 12 to 15 feet of water within 30 feet of the bank. All most all of the pond is 12 to 21 feet deep. It's a long drive for me from Madison, but I'll make the occasional return trip.
The ditch that runs to the creek is shallow. Today it was about 2-2.5ft deep (Wheeler level at 556ft today behind dam). There were a few spots it probably gets hairy for the fiberglass bass boats.
Water level immediately once you get to the creek is not as deep as the pond.
I didn't catch anything in the creek, but I did venture into Cottonmouth Pond. What a name! Not much happening in there. Not any visible lay downs to jig.
I fried up the day's catch for dinner tonight. Glad these heavy storms didn't hit while I was out on the water!
