Wheeler 31 May
Got a buddy and his 6 year old out yesterday and we fished around the Decatur area. Did not get a single crappie, but boy did we find some bream! We kept that young kid running between his dad and I as we'd set the hook and let him reel them in. We finally ran out of crickets with 47 good ones in the live well. We hit a couple of cats as well and threw them all back. But the real show was the couple of Alligator Gar we had on. That kid was reeling for everything he was worth on those toothy critters, what a hoot!! Believe the young man had a great day of it even without a crappie in the boat.
Bream were 20' deep. Used a good sized piece of split shot, counted it down to the bottom and just a slow reel. They were usually on the cricket before you had it moved 5'.

I got on some real bruisers over at madison county lake on Sunday. I would mark beds on the side image then drop a cricket on them with a small split shot. They were big, solid, and aggressive. Let them go to finish their business. Moved out into 9-10 feet of water and wore out some big ones also that had moved off the beds. Fun times!

Bob, would love to get my 10 year old daughter on some good bream. How did you find them out 20 feet deep? Did you just know a spot or find them on a depth finder? Finding bream deep has always puzzled me. Any pointers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I caught some over in Guntersville in deeper water like that too. I found fish then just dropped crickets to see what happened. Even caught a couple decent shellcrackers.

Well, I know I have found crappie on this spot before, but I kept getting the tat tat tat bite on my jig, so I changed up and threw a cricket to the bottom and it was on. I could also see the fish on my graph, just had to ID what the little buggers were. LoL
