TWRA/ KY Lake meeting report
Here' a quick version of the meeting:
Steve mccadams was the master of ceremony.
About 100 locals attended, plus several TWRA commissioners, biologists & game wardens. TWRA did a good job of presenting the facts regarding crappie populations, trends and various issues affecting population. They presented SPECIFIC information relative to the effects that creel limits, size limits and number of poles have on crappie population. The data clearly represented (at least to those intelligent enough to understand or willing enough to listen) that there is NO factual data to support a reduction in fish creel limits or pole limits. Nor does the data support an increase in fish length. Can't say for sure if this part was staged in advance (my guess it was), but a number of people in the audience were adamant about conducting an in-house vote on reducing pole limits, Creel reduction and length increase. McCadams just happened to have a clipboard handy and was readily available to tally the votes. Can't remember the exact numbers, but I think that over 50 pct want to limit the number of poles, a somewhat lesser amount want to reduce the creel limit and I think an even smaller number want to increase the length limit. I may be way off base here, but i feel confident that this "informal" vote was intended to impress the commissioners and press in attendance. I'm sure we will be seeing these numbers again as those who are proponents of changes get out their version of events.
More to come later. Need some shut eye because early tomorrow I plan on breaking out the ole spider rig and try my best to reduce the crappie population by 30 :)
