push in aerator screen
I bought a couple aerator screens for my boat. the nipple on the things are 3/4 in diameter. They wont fit the thru-hull fittings on my 91 Ranger. I measured the hole in the fitting and it looks like its closer to 5/8. I have done a search online for 5/8 fittings and came up with nothing. will I have to change the thru-hull fittings or can I get smaller nipples for the screens. The nipples screw off by the way. Have any of you dealt with this before. Looking for input before I start replacing things that I don't need to. Thanks, superfly.

Pictures of the hull and the part you are trying to put on would help.
I think the reason you can't find a 5/8 fitting is that the hole through it is too small for the pump to get enough water.

I thought all live well intakes were 3/4. Never seen one smaller. Thought all those screw on screens fit all intakes. If you have something different I would suggest you call Ranger.

Had the same thing on my SS Tracker. I wrapped the nipple with electrical tape until the fit was snug. Been like that for about 10 years now. DP

I found a way around the problem. I just unscrewed the nipple from the screen then put a good bead of silicone on the back and stuck them on the back. So far so good. Maybe it will hold. I got the valves rebuilt and two new pumps. I put the screens on because I got tired of taking the battery box apart to get in to the pumps to clean something out of them. It is surprising what a pump will suck in. I got a plastic lizard out of one.

Sounds like you did the same thing that I did on my tracker 175xt. Installed suction screens from McMaster Carr on 3/4" pvc nipples inserted in the pickup port on the transom.
