I HATE Hatches.
There was some sort of hatch going on this morning out from Holiday Lodge area. I looked like a "So You Think You Can Dance" contestant on the front of my boat. I caught 5 short fish first thing in that area in an hour or so, but I could not stand it any longer and moved on down towards Clear Creek and did not catch a thing there. At least I got away from the Hatch.

We couldn't get away from it on Nader, left before noon cause we couldn't even use the brella, they like the shade more than we do.:yikes

Last year me and RDucks got into them things. I went to Wally world and bought me a couple of head nets in the camping section. Them things will drive you nut's.

Those things were thick down there. We pulled bandits all morning from clear creek, and other honey holes that were good last year in that part of the lake. We didn't get a single bite. 5 feet of water level sure changes things when last year you are pulling 19-22 fow.
Finally got tired of the bugs and went to the west end. Changed up lures. If I had 5 more of these it would had been a different result. Still took seven to the cleaning station at EP. Big surprise to me that there are no electric outlets for my knife.

hope they are gone real soon. that was no fun today.. Had a fella tell me tonite to put some vanilla extract around my face and ears..Said they hate it. Thank goodness they did not bite, or I might not have made it out alive.

this time last yr we had a big flood on the mississippi river and the buffalo gnats liked to eat the whole town alive. stores started stocking up and selling out of this stuff i believe was called bugins or bugoff something like that. essentially it was vanilla smelling stuff and it worked to keep them things off of u. mix a little vanilla extract w some water and spray around your hat and neck it wont get em all but itll slow em down, at least u can fish.
downsouth i've been eye balling those cranks for awhile now. are they worth buying?

Crappiecon I have had that in my crank box since I bought it almost a year ago. I got at a show for about 5 bucks. We did so well last year on bandits I never gave that big rapala a serious look until yesterday. Jointed shad-raps got some action also. The big rapala caught 6 of the 7 keepers once we switched over to longer baits.

ive noticed they are big in walleye fishing and that they seemed a little bigger. i figured big fish like big bait so i was considering them but was hoping to find some feed back in the crappie world. i appreciate the info sounds like it may be worth putting a few in the tackle box

I just don't think the crappie have grouped up and suspended quite yet in numbers. I am going to add some to my arsenal of plugs for sure.

If you use vanilla, use pure vanilla extract, not imitation. It will keep the gnats off of you. I use mine straight out of the bottle, no cutting it.
