Try stumps, by the channel, flats, by shore. You might put a 1 1/2" bobber 4" above your hook. Keeps the bait out of the moss and other vegetation. Good luck.
You need to chum. Use fish flovored canned cat food, put a couple holes in each end with a church key opener. Tie a string to the can to retrieve the can when finished. Tie it off to a tree or whatever a float is good. Do several in different spots and fish them after two or three hours or the next day.
I caught 2 out from LTL yesterday afternoon and came back this morning but nothing. We leaving after lunch so I'll try chum next time.
I fish the east end of the lake for cats all the time. Liver has been best for me, by far, over the years. Trees and stumps on the shoulders of the channels are great if you are fishing on bottom with a rod...or any of the little cuts in the iron curtain where water is flowing through. I mostly set bush-hooks and trot lines along the edge of the river channel in 4-6 ft of water.
