kansas boy traveling through

Howdy from Kansas, Kentucky folk. I'm in Lexington and I don't have much time to see the sights and sounds, that bourbon tour looks like one heck of gig. So being from Kansas I don't know of any hot crappie spots nearby. Could someone tell me exactly where to go to get on some fish. I do enjoy the hunt most of the time but today and maybe tomorrow I just want to have some fun. Throwing back all that I catch as I'm traveling through and nobody to share and cook the catch with. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated especially if it's gps chords to a great bank or dock accessible brush pile :) Happy hunting, and thanks for being such great hosts while I spend a little time in your beautiful state.

Wish I could help. Lexington is a ways out of my stomping grounds so I don't have any ideas for you. Enjoy your time in our state.

Unfortunately, you're a good hour to hour & a half drive from most any lake that you could bank fish from. And even those lakes offer only sparse areas to fish from, that are reachable on foot.

These are the ones I'm familiar with :
Cave Run Lake is about 1.5hrs East of Lex. via I64 then Ky801
Taylorsville Lake is about 1.5hrs West of Lex. via Bluegrass Prkwy then Ky55
Cedar Creek Lake is about 1hrs South of Lex. via US27 then US150

You could always go out East Main/Richmond Rd ... towards I75 ... and fish at the FINS lake at Jacobson Park. You might catch a catfish or rainbow trout, but it's unlikely you'd catch Crappie.

If you don't have a non-res fishing license, you can purchase a 1day license at any Wal-Mart, for $10.

Cave Run & Taylorsville both have spillways that are accessible by vehicle/foot.
