Ok, how is this done?
I have some chickens that should be getting nervous right about now.
This is what I sent Just
I used 4 packs of the Hawiann punch (these are the small packs you'd dump into a bottle of water), heat your water on the stove to just under boiling. I used two 2 qt. glass jars the aluminum pans just didn't cut it. Put enough hot water in your jar/pan to dis-solve the powder and then 2 tablespoons of white vinegar. Put the rest of your hot water in stir and put your cleaned feathers in it. Some say feathers should be wet I did mine dry as they were already cleaned.
I let them sit stirring every 5 minutes then drained through a mesh colandar and rinse with water till clear. As I had tried the PAS easter egg dye on them the stems had a green tint.
I'm going to stick with the RIT dye as you don't have to use the vinagar. You only have to use 1/4 cup of the dye and just over 1/2 quart of water.
If your doing Turkey feathers you might want to use the tall canning jars or pyrex
pans. Don't know if you want to cut the tall feathers in half or not.
Always wear rubber gloves and keep a good cover on your counter, pour excess slowly as not to spill any when draining your feathers.

nice! have you tried mixing colors with rit dye yet? i use to have a color wheel i can't find but you mix in to yellow like blue and it makes green etc... etc... mite come out with some awesome colors and we will all have to buy your stuff. lol's

Don't be tempted to sell any of the duck feathers. Its a violation under the migratory bird act to sell or trade any part of or item made from legally or illegally taken migratory birds. Its a federal crime, USFW will be knocking on your door! Not worth it!
The only waterfowl feathers on the market are those harvested by farm raised birds or from other countries.
Its actually a felony to sell a jig made from mallard feathers from a bird harvested in the USA.
Kevin - a lot depends on the state your in. But this is the the CFR that applies to it. However, some states have laws that are more restrictive and you need to check with your State Fish and Wildlife Offices.

Any person may possess, purchase, sell, barter, or transport for the making of fishing flies, bed pillows, and mattresses, and for similar commercial uses the feathers of migratory waterfowl (ducks, geese, brant, and swans) killed by hunting pursuant to this part, or seized and condemned by Federal or State game authorities, except that:
(a) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter for millinery or ornamental use the feathers of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part; and
(b) No person shall purchase, sell, barter, or offer to purchase, sell, or barter mounted specimens of migratory game birds taken under authority of this part.

Personally I never sell I always trade, but for fishing flies you could DEPENDING ON THE STATE, some have rules in addition to this -
