Glen Elder

Hit the Glen this last weekend. Not much going on, on the banks in the morning or during the day. Did manage to find an evening bite back in Schoen's. Ending up keeping 17 in two evenings of fishing. Using minnow and bobber in about 1-2 foot of water. Males are colored up and females still full of eggs. I tend to agree with the opinion that the numbers are down but the quality of fish is still pretty darn good. Most of the fish we caught were in the 12-14 inch range. Was good to feel the thump of Glen slab again! Walleye bite must be pretty good right now, lake was packed!!

Man, I want to try Glen Elder!

Thank for the report, good times are ahead. This cool weather may set the spawn back, do not care on the way Monday morning, crappie and walleyes are in my sites.

Fished Saturday afternoon. Really hot weather fishing was slow. Tried pulling cranks nothing but Walleyes and drum. Tried jigs along dam but nothing, I did see some guys picking up crappie shallow on minnows.

Went down to Glen Elder last week with my dad and brother, and we did pretty good. Fish were just turning hot in the spots we found them, and the size was awesome - lots of 14 inch fish, and two 16 inchers - including one that was a male. Could have brought back 180 legally, but we took home 154 total, and maybe threw back 15 or 20 fish the whole trip. If you look at the current KDWPT report, it is exactly accurate, and Scott, the biologist will give you the most accurate information of anyone if you want to know how/where to fish the lake. It was our first time ever fishing in KS, and he put us on fish. The bait shops all gave us what they knew, but they are too busy this time of year to be on the lake, so their info is usually second-hand - which we all know can be "questionably accurate". But we bought stuff from Joe at Myers in Downs, Wayne and Rich at Wayne's in Glen Elder, and I don't know the name of the guy at Little Bait Shop in Cawker City, but he was extremely nice guy. In the end, though, Scott the biologist had the best info - and he doesn't mind sharing the info. We were part of a creel survey on Wednesday afternoon, and on Thursday morning, people were already showing up to fish there! So he's not afraid to pass out the info to anyone who asks. As for other people, it was a toss up on friendliness - people off the lake were extremely nice, but fishermen who saw we were from out of state were not so kind. No real douchebags, but there was some resentment. And I understand it, I've seen it pretty much anywhere I've gone ... hunting, fishing, snowmobiling whatever, people resent out of staters using "their" resources. Even had a guy in SD shoot a hole in my duckboat while it was parked overnight - so it's nothing new. I would go back for sure, but from the pressure I saw and the number of huge spawning crappies that were being taken, I would say that Glen Elder won't be able to keep producing the quality of fish for much longer - the "good ole days" are right now. I apologize for us keeping less than our legal limit and having a successful fishing trip. And from all the roosters I heard cackling, I think I might come down this fall to help out with the overpopulation of pheasants too.

No need to apologize you didn't do anything illegal. 154 though you must have been real hungry. I don't know about the pheasant hunting it really hasn't been as good as it once was for about 4 or 5 years out there you would probably be better off in that aspect shortening your trip and just going to SD for a Walleye/Pheasant combo that would probably be a for sure limit out on both situations:ThumbsUp.
