Minn Kota i pilot US2 adapter questions

Hi I just recently bought a new troller and was wondering what the deal is with the US2 cables that I have not purchased yet. Do I need the cable for the US2 transducer to function? if so where does that short adapter cable connect on the trolling motor side? I have the 30' Ethernet cable already connected to my Humminbird 898, I want to know more about this cable before I purchase it and all it says on the minn kota page is that it makes it Easy to connect it to the fish finder, is this just a cable that makes it EASIER to connect it to the finder or does it actually add the transducer function? And where does the short cable connect to, the Ethernet cable or what???? Don't really want to buy the cable just to make my connections easier I can turn the thimble just fine to connect the Ethernet? I'm lost hahaha Thanks in advance

The US2 cable is for connecting the trolling motor transducer (US2 transducer) to your unit. You must have a US2 transducer to have the wire for this connection. This transducer is only a 2D dual beam transducer and will not give you SI or DI functions. It is not recommended for your 898! So if I understand you right, you do not need this cable.

Though, more info is needed for further suggestions. Is your unit already hooked up and how/where? Where is the transducer and which one is it. How do you plan to use your unit? Do you have another unit?

The Ethernet cable will connect to the i-Pilot Link (not the US2 transducer).
