anybody out there who is familiar with fishing Badin or Tillery at night? I am looking for someone to help a rookie out. When is the best time to nightstalk, and where are some good locations on these two lakes for nightstalking? any and all advice would be great. Feel free to PM me. Thanks

I haven't night stalked in a long time but I do fish Basin regularly. I have been catching some nice fish lately in the back of coves in 16-20 ft. I'd suggest scouting for a quiet cove on the South side of the lake. Next I'd cruise through and try to locate schools of shad....crappie candy. Once you find a likely spot, the wait begins. Put your lights out and kick back. It takes a while for the bait to build up and bring in the crappies. Also, you might want to check out the lights made by Hydroglow...Awesome!!!
How far will crappie travel to come to the light?
I have never fished either lake but when the water temp gets 80 or above is best. Look for brush in at least 20 ft of water or just behind a steep drop-off.
I think the light creates a micro food chain....if you watch closely after putting the light in, you'll see tiny organisms appear first, then small minnows, then bigger minnows, then shad and finally bigger fish. And don't forget the buffet of bugs being drawn into the water. Just remember, it takes time for the bite to build under the light. Good luck.
excited4711 you are in luck I have been night fishing on tillery many times. I have been during cool and hot weather and by far the best time for me has been mid- summer when it is too hot during the day. First get a good light , one that submerges work best. find a point that runs out into the main lake or creek and anchor both ends of the boat in 20 feet of water. Set your light and wait. You should start seeing minnow activity in about 30 min if not move and start over. Fish around the edge where the light and dark meets. Minnows work best for me , good luck.

I don’t look for either, I try to get between deep (where they hang out during hot days) and shallow water (where they go to feed). The light and all the food hanging around the light is all that is needed. I fish close to the dam only because that is were I put in.
