I have a 797 my bow and it says low voltage when I turn it on and sometimes it will turn it's self off. I checked the power supply with a multimeter and it shows 12.5 volts at the plug. I also have a 798 and it did the same thing. but my meter reads 12.5. when the unit is on it says it is getting around 9.6 Volts. I don't know what to do now.
Have your battery load tested. A fully charged battery will read 12.6 volts.
Chase wires back to battery after load test. Sounds like possible corrosion or something loose.
How do you test load a battery. It is hooked up to my starting battery and starts a 150 merc no problem. Also has an onboard charger that keeps it maintanced. I'll try to chase the wires and see if I can find any corrossion.
You need a load tester or stop by your local auto parts store and they usually will check batteries for free. When you checked the voltage was the unit and everything running? Did it by chance show a negative 12.5?
I checked it at the the plug for the unit itself and it was getting 12.5 there. I don't recall it being negative. The battery is only a year old. I'm going to check for corrosion when I get home.
Check for loose connections too. Don’t forget the fuse, fuse holder and battery connections.
Assuming this is an existing install and not a new one. If new, check the wire gauge used as it may be too small for the distance the wires run.
