look for a new mold

Does anyone use the Do-it mold round head with double collar designed for the Gama hooks? Here are the specs. I have both of the poison tail molds that have the double collar and love them for 3" and 4" swim baits and flukes. Does the smaller tubes used for crappie work well with the double collars? The Poison Tails are easy to tie on if I choose to. Has anyone tied on these.

I would substitute Sickle or EC hooks instead of the Gama's. The Gama's are a little pricey.

for s my jigs i use collar less jig heads like collarless trout jigs this keeps a flat symmetrical body when tied "no lumps or bumps" any ways the problem with the smaller double ring collar jigs is stuff like small 1 inch soft plastics and gulp minnows in 1 inch the ball and ring collar tend to split the gulp and the soft plastics when inserting in to the gulp or soft plastics... this is why i use collarless jig heads. not saying you can use it if your fish like bigger 2 inch plastic you can use it then no problem... any ways i hope this answered your question? i think the crappie down south like bigger baits then up here in Michigan some times...lol's

Thanks for the reply. That is what I was thinking about the smaller baits. About the smallest size I use is a slider. I think they are 2". I could always clip the collar if need be for small tubes but I don't see myself using them. What the heck, I ordered one. If nothing else I will modify it to take a heavier hook and use them for stripped bass.

Yeah tubes will hold well.

I have the shake-it mold which also has a double collar system and it holds 2.5" tubes very well. Mine has a barb as well but I think without it the tubes would still hold just as well.

If you are looking for a jig to really hold plastics well, you may want to check out the ones with the wire keeper.

Got the mold in and made a few test pours. The 1/32 with a No.2 sickle actual weight is 21 grains (1/21 of an ounce) and the 1/16 with a No.1 sickle weighs 28 grains (1/16 oz). The 1/8 weighs 61 grains with a 1/0 sickle (just a touch over 1/8 oz) and the 1/4 weighs 116 grains with a 2/0 sickle(1/4 oz). So all but the 1/32 are spot on. I took them for a short test swim yesterday and they seem to swim very well. I clipped the second ring off one of the 1/32 heads and it then weighs 1/32 oz but as well as these swim and the place we fish I doubt the little bit of added weight will hurt. I will try to give another report once I have actually fished them.

I fished these for several hours today. No big crappie but lots of small ones and tons of catfish. Caught several 2-3 lb fresh water drum also. I am very impressed with these heads and hooks. The hooks penetrated the bones in the fishes mouth very well with several piercing the gill plates. Lots of foul hooked cats in the current also. Anything close to the hook got stuck. The collars held the sliders very well. I am most impressed with the added life of the grub bodys. I used very few bodies today compared to normal. The fish would eventually chew through them but I only had to replace one due to being torn and sliding down the hook. Over all I am very pleased with this mold.
