Wish i wasn't working all the time so i could get out there and catch all those crappie like some folks on here, however I do have a few vacation days scheduled in May and was planning on going to Mellwood only been there once and the phone number I have for Ron and Di's marina is no longer a working number ans I am clueless about what level the river needs to be for it to be good if anybody has any information that would be helpful I would be forever grateful. Thanks in advance
i always went by the gauge at memphis , anywhere between 12 and 16 foot was always best for me as long as river isnt rising or falling to fast, no more than a few 10ths a day
looked at the gauge, shows 16.9 river fell .9 at memphis almost a foot per day , arkansas city gauge showed .5 and forcast 1 foot per day , thats usually not good , but its better than rising water , just go fish and see what happens
when the Helena gauge hits 13 close the store and go I was told. I always liked it a tad higher.
Thanks a bunch not gonna go till May 15 I could always go to the refuge but I would prefer to go there I wish I could find out if the people there still had cabins I guess I can always take tents and haul my generator
870-827-6498 this is the number i have dont know if its still a good number or not but was told they still rent some of the cabins ,havent been in several years just hard to catch the river right for weekend fishing, used to be my favorite place to fish!
The number Greg has posted is the last working number I have. When the river on the Memphis gauge is 16 feet, the water on the outside edge of the willows on the island side is about 14 or 15 feet deep. You can catch some fish but my preference is a little lower. At 16 feet on the Memphis gauge Desoto lake is good in the willows.
If you got to Mellwood when the water is up near the trailers dont make a wake or one guy will pull a shotgun on you. Also, if you get tired there are some floating dock/boats out there you can chill on for real. Bring beer.
